How do I prepare for my first vocal recording?
What to bring, how to plan the parts, and how recording differs from mixing and mastering.
Prepare your lyrics, instrumental or demo, references and list of vocal parts. Send them ahead of time and agree key, structure and deliverables. Fewer organisational questions during the session means more time for performance.
Plan the vocal parts
Mark verses, choruses, repetitions, doubles and backing vocals in your lyrics. Rehearse with the actual instrumental. If the key or tempo feels wrong, tell the studio before the session.
Use references to explain specific ideas: a close vocal, a dense chorus, a short echo or contrast between sections. A reference establishes direction; your voice and performance remain individual.
Put the materials in one folder
Send the best available instrumental and demo. Give separate tracks clear names and agree delivery formats with the engineer. Keep the original files after export.
For an AI demo, explain what you want to keep: melody, structure, mood or a hook. Clarify which source materials may be used in the eventual release.
- Lyrics with sections marked.
- Instrumental, demo and separate tracks if available.
- References with short explanations.
- Lead vocals, doubles and backing vocal plan.
- Confirmed date, address and scope.
Recording, mixing and mastering are different stages
Recording creates and selects vocal takes. Mixing combines the voice and instruments into a coherent balance and sound. Mastering prepares the finished mix for its agreed use.
Hourly vocal tracking is UAH 2000/hour, minimum two hours. Recording/mixing/mastering starts at UAH 5500 per track. Agree whether you need a final master, instrumental or separate recorded vocal tracks.
